This book is quite long and intense. Because of the holidays, and subsequent responsibilities, as well as an approaching trip to Europe, I took longer to read than usual. This allowed me more time, however, to reflect.In 1950, Maurice Herzog planned and executed the climb of the highest peak in Napal. An incredible story involving the selection of climbers, visas and the associated preparations. Also included was the accumulation of two tons of necessary supplies. Included in the organization of this expedition was a surgeon, medical supplies, cookies (men from the region to carry all materials on their backs, and local Sherpa (men who assist and guide a mountaineering party. So we're involved with or members of the elite climbing group, The French Alpine Climbing and rescue group with invaluable and plentiful Alpine Climbing experience. It was a thoroughly planned and supplied group.They began their journey with time enough to sumit a mountain nearby Annapurna, but it's vertical ice walls and relative inaccessibility caused a change from the initial mountain, to a longer trek to Annapurna. This mountain was slightly higher by matters and included out of date maps and a much longer trek to reach.There was also, at the time another mountaineering party preparing to climb Everest.
