I've read most of Paul Theroux's books. Only two have left me a little disappointed. This book is perhaps one of his bests. Theroux is the type of travel writer that leaves the reader spellbound with what adventure is just around the corner. If you are looking for a travel book based on the finer aspects of travel, this will probably not be the books for you. Theroux lets you experience the real country and the real people that brings everything to life. I don't, out of principal write a 5-Star review but this deserves, five or more stars.Well done! PT must be a very brave and adventurous soul. His travels around the Mediterranean are eye-opening and described in a way that you can visualize them. He gets into situations that are very uncomfortable and even dangerous. He just keeps plowing ahead. If you want to know what the countries are like that border this great sea, then this is the book for you. Very enlightening and entertaining. I have a very high degree of respect for PT. Gutsy guy for sure.
